AN ORCHARD RESPONSIBLE TOWARDS THE ENVIRONMENT

For several years, in cooperation with clubs of technical support ( Agro Pomme) and lnstitut of Research and development in Agroecology ( IRDA), we work to reduce the use of pesticides by innovative practices. So, these last years we have participated in attempts of biological repression on certain insects.

Year after year we are more involved in a culture that enhances our environment.

 
CHARACTERISTICS OF APPLES BY VARIETY
   

LODI
Middle of July

Yellow fruit with a rather acid sour flavour. Is eatable fresh and cooks very well for compote and for other desserts
.Keep cooled until its consumption. Keeps for some weeks.

MC INTOSH
Middle of Septembre
A favorite to crunch !
Well known for its sweet bitter flavor.
Due to its firmness, it can be preserved until january in a cold place .
Cooked for jelly or juice
MELBA
Middle of August
Of red and pale yellow colors, beautifull fruit, soft with a sweet and sour flavor. Great for sauce and juice.
Preserves itself from 2 to 3 weeks in a cold place..
 CORTLAND
End of September
Less acid and more sweet !
Nice big apple, nicknamed LA POMME À TARTE (PIE'S APPLE) : does not darken and keep their shape at baking. Excellent for desserts and to be frozen.
Preserves itself up to 4 months in a cold place..
JERSEY MAC
Middle of August
Pretty dark red apple. Sweet and lightly acid refreshing taste. Easy to cook
Preserves itself up to 6 months in a cold place.
SPARTAN
End of September
Very firm and sweet apple with a light pear's taste. Its naturaly reddish peel colors jelly and compote
Preserves itself from 4 to 5 months in a cold place.
PAULARED
End of August
Perfect to bite into. Cooked for desserts orfor pies. Sweet and juicy, it mixes the qualities of Cortland and Mc Intosh apples.
Preserves itself from 7 to 8 weeks in a cold place.
EMPIRE
End of September
Apple of all qualities ::
crispy, juicy, sweet, perfumed and colored.
Elle est excellente à manger fraîche.
Cooked for compote or jelly .
Preserves itself from 5 to 6 months in a cold place.
LOBO
Beginning of September
Big sweet fruit. Its flesh is tinted with pink color
Gains tenderness as it matures. Good for juice, pies or sauce.
Can be stored untill december .
GOLDEN RUSSETT
End of September
Golden yellow marbled fruit with a rough peel.
TVery Sweet and firm. Used to make cider.
Preserves itself from 5 to 6 months in a cold place.
 
USEFULL HINTS TO PRESERVE YOUR APPLES

To keep well your apples, handle them with care.
Store them in a tirror of your refrigerator, into perforated plaStig bags.
Store large quantities baskets in a cold storage room, at temperature between 0 and 4 C. Covering them with perforated plastic sheets will keep the humidity.
Apple wedges, cuttings and slices can be frozen but not the entire apple.
